We drink wine with dinner, or have a few drinks after work, or even a few beers while watching a ball game, but when a pattern of drinking begins to emerge, it can become a problem†(Substance Dependency, n.d., Para 1). Drinking alcohol is like playing a game of reality versus fantasy, the more alcohol is digested, and the closer a person gets to a fantasy theme. â€Å"Drug use in America is also more commonplace than it once†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"Not everyone who uses drugs abuses them or becomes dependent. Other things that influence whether this happens include your genes, family, friends, and life situations†(Drug Abuse, n.d., Para 3). It is difficult to find what the cause of alcoholism is. Many experts lean towards â€Å"genes, the environment, and having low self-image†(Alcohol use, n.d., Para 2). Many experts also believe that alcoholism occurs when a person â€Å"drinks so much over time that your body becomes dependent on or addicted to alcohol. When this happens, alcohol use becomes the most important thing in a person’s life†(What Is, n.d., Para 1). Treatment Theories employed There are multiple treatment level theories of substance abuse. The first type of treatment stage is typically the most difficult because the treatment is made to break substance craving. In early treatment, clients can be emotionally fragile, ambivalent about relinquishing chemicals, and resistant to treatment. During this stage, therapists attempt to get their clients to get together in groups of hope. The next treatment stage is considered the â€Å"action† stage. During this stage, â€Å"clients need the group’s assistance in recognizing that their substance abuse causes many of their problems and blocks them from getting things they want†(5 Stages, n.d., Para 3). This is the stage whereas clients find a substitute to take over the substance. During this stage clients need guidance in
